My theme for this year is Comic Superwomen, a throwback to my artist origin story!
I mean, I was always drawing. Before I had a grasp of all the letters in my name, I started scrawling, "GRA" on walls and furniture. Picking Uncanny X-Men off the Walgreen's spinner racks was what really fueled my journey as a storytelling artist, though. The first issue I picked up featured the coolest women imaginable: Storm, Psylocke, Doc Reyes, and Marrow. This year's for my child self, finding the inspiration which would become an obsession and then a career.
Participating in Inktober this year has been a challenge. It has been every year, but this time I'm balancing a part-time marketing job. My eldest cat, Cleo (at a venerable 19 years old) also had a major health scare at the end of September. Babygirl is recovering, thankfully, but it was a stressful time.
And so, despite being four days behind, I am committed to finishing 31 pieces. As an artist with ADHD, it's a huge boost to morale to just finish things. I completed Inktober the last two years and dammit, I'm going to do it again!
Here are a few of my favorite pieces from days 1-10. Check out my Tumblr or Bluesky to see all of them as they're posted.
